What we’ve learned and accomplished informs and inspires our future initiatives.

Safe environments create space for growth.

  • Creating safe spaces

In March 2020, a storm ripped the roof off of an older three-classroom building. The storm and subsequent exposure deteriorated the concrete floor, leading to the need for extensive repairs. Students were forced to learn outside under minimal cover. EFFAC funded the replacement of the roof, repairs to the floor, and provided electricity that had been lacking. Students were able to return for classes in the fall.

  • Building skills for the future

As part of the classroom expansion project in 2018, EFFAC built and equipped a computer lab for students and shared with the community. This building provides a secure space for up-to-date technology and allows students to acquire the skills needed to learn about the world and seize opportunities both academically and personally. EFFAC’s annual funding includes new laptops and software (15 laptops now available) as well as funding computer lab staffing and internet access.

  • Moving the body to support the mind

Prior to it’s construction in 2020, no recreation facilities or equipment were available to students. Recognizing that children and adults need a safe space to play, EFFAC funded the construction of a basketball court and recreation area. Students and the community now have a place to build teamwork and leadership skills as well as have a lot of fun.

  • Safe and secure campus

The St. Bonicace church and school are located at a busy Kovie intersection. After a child was injured by a motorcycle speeding through the school courtyard, EFFAC funded the construction of security wall and gate.

  • Hygienic learning environment

An 800 student school without toilet or handwashing facilities? That was the situation at St. Boniface before EFFAC constructed a latrine with handwashing facilities in 2025.
